William's Family Recipe for Crumb Cake

This recipe for Crumb Cake is from Barbara Gordon's Grandmother Williams.

Ingredients Crumb Cake:


Cake: 
1 cup sugar
1 pinch salt (or more)
1 tsp baking soda
3 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup butter
1 cup  Sour milk (1.5 TBSP lemon juice mixed with 1 cup milk)

Crumbs:

Crumbs - (about 1 ΒΌ recipe)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter 
pinch of salt


Makes 2 cakes.

Instructions

Mix dry cake ingredients. Rub in shortening with tips of fingers. Moisten until sticky with sour milk or cream. If cream is used, use less butter.

Mix crumb mixture, sprinkle on top.

Bake about 30 minutes at 350
