Applesauce Cake

This recipe for Hungarian Goulash is from Barbara Gordon's Great Grandmother Soder.

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup hot applesauce, sweetened
1 tsp soda dissolved in 2~ tbs hot apple sauce
1 cup raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp cocoa
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 egg
2 cups, sifted all-purpose flour
nuts and citrons may be added if you wish
1 tsp salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg. Sift together the dry ingredients (except soda). Mix fruit and nuts into a little of the dry ingredients (this keeps them from sticking together. Heat applesauce to boiling. Add to sugar mixture.

Bake in glass dish at 325 for 35 to 40 minutes.
